The house edge is a mathematical reality built into every game — no strategy eliminates it. What strategy does is find the decision at every choice point that minimizes the expected loss. Over a long session or a lifetime of play, those optimal decisions compound into meaningfully better outcomes.

This distinction matters because it sets accurate expectations. A player who learns blackjack basic strategy and plays it perfectly will still lose over a long enough period — but at approximately 0.5% of total dollars wagered instead of 2-3%.
